Frequently asked questions
Straight answers, including to the questions we get asked most sceptically.
Getting started
Do I need a passport to register?
No. You can register without a passport, without an NIC copy and without an email address. If you do not have a passport yet, we help you apply for one — many of the people who walk in have not applied yet.
How do I start?
Call us, send us a WhatsApp message, or fill in the inquiry form on this website. Tell us your name, your WhatsApp number and the trade you are interested in, and we take it from there.
Which districts do you accept candidates from?
All 25 districts of Sri Lanka. Accommodation and transport are arranged for your training week, so travelling from another district is not a problem.
Do I need site experience already?
Experience helps, but it is not required. Many candidates come from related work — mason helper, steel fixer, carpenter, labourer — and others are entering the trade. Tell us what you do now when you register.
Training
How long is the course?
One week. Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 17:00 each day, hands-on in your trade.
What trades do you train?
Five construction trades: Tiler, Plasterer, Formwork Carpenter, Finishing Carpenter and Barbender (steel fixer).
Is training available in Sinhala?
Yes. Registration, training, all three assessments and your certificate are available in Sinhala and English.
Where will I stay during the week?
Accommodation and transport are arranged for your training week as part of how the academy runs its courses. Ask us for the details for your batch when you enrol.
How many people are in a batch?
Up to 50 trainees per course. Places are limited, so it is worth contacting us early.
Assessment & certification
What tests will I sit?
Three: an aptitude test (12 questions, 15 minutes), a personality profile (no time limit), and a trade-skills test (8 questions, 20 minutes). The personality one has no right answers and nothing to fail — it is a profile of how you work, so answer honestly.
What happens if I do not pass?
If you fall short we tell you exactly where, and re-sits are handled case by case — ask us and we will explain what applies to you.
Do I get a certificate?
Yes, on passing. It carries a unique number and a verification QR code, so an employer can check that it is genuine.
Documents
What documents will I need?
Typically a passport copy, an NIC copy, a photograph, police clearance and a medical certificate. The exact list depends on the destination and the employer, and it does change — we keep a checklist for you and tell you what is still outstanding.
What if one of my documents expires?
We track issue and expiry dates and warn you before a document lapses. A passport that has quietly expired is one of the most common reasons a placement falls through, and it is avoidable.
Should I send my documents through this website?
No. Never upload your passport, NIC or certificates to a website. Bring them to the centre or ask us how to share them safely. This site only sends us a message.
Fees
What does the course cost, and how do I pay?
Course fees are confirmed at registration — call or message us for the current fee for your trade. You can pay by cash, bank transfer, card, online slip, eZ Cash or cheque, and every payment gets a numbered receipt.
Will I get a receipt?
Yes — a numbered receipt for every payment, whatever method you use. Always ask for it and keep it.
After training
Do you guarantee a job abroad?
No, and we will not tell you otherwise. We train you, assess you, certify you and submit you to overseas employers through our own in-house agency. The employer makes the final selection. Anyone who promises you a guaranteed job abroad is not being straight with you.
What happens after I am certified?
You are shortlisted, and our in-house placement agency submits that shortlist to an overseas employer. We keep your documents current while that happens and tell you where you stand.
What is a demo video?
A short video of you working — a video CV. With your explicit permission it can be shared with an employer, so they see you on the tools rather than only reading a form. It is optional, and it is your choice.
What happens to my personal data?
We record your consent separately for each purpose — processing your data, photographs, a demo video, and sharing your details with the agency — as required under the Sri Lankan Personal Data Protection Act. You can say yes to some and no to others.
